Queenstown Travel Information

About Queenstown

Queenstown is New Zealand’s adventure central and provides year-round outdoor entertainment - everything from bungy jumping, skiing and paraponting to world-class golf. In the winter, the town is taken over by snow sport enthusiasts due to the two ski fields close at hand, as well as the Queenstown Winter Festival in June or July (the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere).

A tour of Queenstown’s lake on board the ‘Lady of the Lake’ TSS Earnslaw is also a great way to enjoy pure alpine air and the beauty of Lake Wakatipu. Queenstown city centre has everything within walking distance, including retail shops and over 100 places to dine, with something to suit every taste. Whether you need to hire a rental car from Queenstown City or want to pick one up at Queenstown Airport, Budget has plenty of cars available.

Queenstown road trips

Queenstown has a large range of wineries, suitable for the expert or first time wine enthusiast. This can be taken as a self-drive tour in a Budget rental car, or several companies offer guided several hour tours, which also have the option of including a winery lunch so you can enjoy all the area has to offer without missing out on tasting all the wonderful wines.

Well worth a half or full-day trip is the breathtaking scenery of Mount Aspiring National Park. The Milford Road is also a stunning alpine drive, with many good viewing points and short walking opportunities. Motorists are advised to fill their car with fuel at Te Anau, although supplies are available at Milford Sound.

Flights

Air New Zealand offer travelers a wonderful range of domestic flights within New Zealand and lots of international services to/from Australia, the South West Pacific, Asia, North America, Europe and the United Kingdom.
