Location Information

Rotorua is the North Island’s most famous tourist destination and is known worldwide for its amazing geothermal activity. Rotorua also has many beautiful lakes, historical buildings, and a wide variety of adventure activities, all of which can be explored on a Budget rental car.

Central to the Rotorua experience are the geothermal features that dominate the city – spouting geysers, mud pools, volcanic crater lakes and the distinctive sulphur smell make it clear that this is not your usual destination. Relax in one of the many thermal pools or take the more playful mud bath spa option for an iconic Rotorua experience. The surrounding environment of lakes, rivers and mountains offer even more possibilities as adventure seekers can raft, kayak and jet boat through a wild natural playground.

For those looking for culture, Rotorua is a great place to learn about history and the Maori way of life. There are guided walks around the city and tours available to enter and experience Maori villages in the region – complete with hangi (Maori term for food), cultural performances and warriors in traditional dress re-enacting past practises.
