A Budget Customer Discount (BCD) Number is a unique number assigned to a Budget account or program that identifies eligibility for contracted features, rates and or a percentage discount off a rate.

If you're a member of an organisation or company that partners with Budget you may have access to a corporate BCD. Please check with your organisation or Account Manager for details.

If you have a Budget Customer Discount (BCD) number, you can enter it in the "BCD" discount code section of the search form. We'll use this BCD number to calculate your rental rate and benefits.

Yes. We accept Visa and MasterCard debit cards. These cards must show the customer's name, signature and card number, with the applicable logo. Prepaid and reloadable debit cards and gift cards, as well as travel cards and EFTPOS cards are not accepted.

If you choose to Pay Now, you will pay the full amount at time of booking. If you choose to Pay at Counter you will pay when you collect your vehicle. 

Budget accepted cards for payment include; Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

At the start of your rental, a credit and or a debit card must be presented. Your card must show your name, signature and card number, with applicable logo. The cardholder must be the renter and present, when collecting the vehicle.

Budget does not accept bank cards worded cardholder, nor accepts prepaid or reloadable store value cards, travel money cards and eftpos cards.

At the end of the rental, some Budget locations will accept prepaid or reloadable store value cards as a final form of payment.

Unexpected changes can happen, so at Budget, if your reservation has not been pre-paid, generally no cancellation fee will apply.

If you have pre-paid your booking a cancellation fee applies:

  • If you cancel at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled pick-up time, there is a $86.25 (inc. GST) cancellation fee.  
  • If you cancel within 24 hours prior to the scheduled pick-up time, there is a $172.50 (inc. GST) cancellation fee.
  • If you fail to cancel your reservation prior to the pick-up time and do not collect the vehicle on the pick-up date, the entire pre-paid amount will be forfeited.   
  • If the value of your reservation is less than the cancellation fee, you will not be charged any further amount and will not be entitled to any refund.

Generally all Budget rentals include unlimited kilometres, unless otherwise indicated at the time of booking.

If you are booking a particular vehicle or rate which has limited kilometres you will be advised the kilometre allowance included per day and the cost of additional kilometres.  Road User Charges apply to Budget Truck vehicles.

Simply, enter the coupon number in the 'Coupon Code' section of the search form when you are entering your search parameters. 

If you are booking direct from the offer page, the coupon code has been pre-filled for you. 

There is no need to reconfirm your Budget reservation. However you can view, modify or cancel your upcoming  reservation online here.

If you have booked with a third party and haven't received a confirmation, please contact them directly. 

When paying with a credit or debit card a Card Transaction Fee will apply. This is a processing fee that is charged by the card issuers to Budget.

A fee of 2.2% for MasterCard and Visa and 3.1% for American Express applies to the total rental charges including GST where a credit or debit card is used for payment. The card transaction fee is subject to GST.

Taking your rental car inter-island, across the Cook Strait is not permitted in any circumstances. You must leave your vehicle at the Wellington or Picton ferry terminals and collect a vehicle on the other island.  Crossing inter island is known at Budget as a Multi Island Hire.

Only those people whose names are recorded on the Rental Agreement may drive a Budget vehicle. Please proceed to the nearest branch to register an additional driver on your agreement. For more information on additional drivers including any applicable charges please click here.
