Child Safety & Booster Seats in New Zealand
Under New Zealand law, all children under seven years of age must use an approved child restraint appropriate for their age and size. Children aged seven must be secured in a restraint if one is available in the vehicle. It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that any child travelling in the vehicle is correctly using an appropriate child restraint.
For your convenience, rear-seat, forward facing reversible child safety seats are available at most locations. These child safety seats can be used in two ways:
- Reversed for babies
- Forward-facing for toddlers
Child Safety Seats (rear-facing) are suitable for younger infants and toddlers age 0-6 that weigh 2.2-9 kgs (5-20 lbs).
Child Safety Seats (forward-facing) are suitable for younger infants and toddlers age 0-6 that weigh 9-18 kgs (20-40 lbs).
Child Booster Seats are suitable for children aged 3-7 years, or children weighing 18-36 kgs (40-80 lbs).
